Indoor Signage Project

Condominium Directional Signage

Case Study

Terrene Urban Builders contacted SignDog to be their signage vendor for a higher end condominium build-out in Kirkland. We were referred by a previous contractor who we worked with on a Hilton Garden Inn Hotel in Redmond, WA.

For this project, we first combed through the drawings and built a plan showing all the signage needed to meet code and to meet the aesthetic vision of the designer. After putting a plan together, we went into contract and got to work.

Our second phase was determining the overall look and feel of the Unit ID’s for all 136 units. We met with Sechrist Design a dozen times (both via zoom and in person) to go over the ideas to achieve a high-end look, while still respecting the established budget. Once JADE had their patterns, floor materials, wallpaper materials and colors selected and in the process of installation, we stepped in and built samples based on the drawings. These samples were used to try and match colors intended, as well as contrast properly. It’s one thing to draw a design on a computer, it’s another to create it in real life and have the product look and function the way it was originally intended.

Our third phase was to begin production. For the unit ID’s, we custom cut each piece of wood frame. Then angle cut the corners, to achieve the correct “seamless” look for the outer rectangle frame. After pin mounting all corners, we glued them and placed them in a woodworking framing vice. Multiple sanding passes and coats of stain later, we were able to achieve the look that was approved.

For the actual number and identifying panels, we printed these on our Direct Color Systems UV LED Braille Printer. We used a ¼” thick acrylic that was frosted and then printed the background color and raised gold portions and raised braille portions. We were proud to build these by hand.

Our fourth and final phase was installation. We placed the printed portions into the custom wood frame and then installed onto the wall using a Power Grab glue and double stick adhesive. This gave the overall final product a fastener free appearance and custom elegant look.

Throughout the rest of the building, we built Aluminum LED Reverse Lit Halo Channel Letters for the front entrance of the building. In the lobby, we cut an acrylic logo and painted a custom Pantone 465C gold sign out of acrylic and installed onto the wall behind the desk. The garage was finished off with some garage clearance bars to limit the height of vehicles allowed.
